Work has officially started on Sandbach's first purpose-built Specialist Supported Housing development designed for adults with learning and physical disabilities to live as independent a life as possible.
The first sod of ground was cut on Thursday (19th November) by Councillor Gill Merry, Mayor of Sandbach Town Council, during the ground breaking ceremony for the project.
Foden View, on Middlewich Road, is a £2.9 million development consisting of 15 apartments which have been designed in partnership with Inclusion Housing CIC and Lifeways Community Care. They are being delivered by specialist supported living developer HB Villages and the contractor is Pochin.
The new development will provide a safe environment for local adults with learning and physical disabilities allowing them to live independently and give them the freedom to manage their own home, budgets and lifestyle with support as and when required.
Councillor Gill Merry, the Mayor of Sandbach, was joined by all partners involved in the project to celebrate the work starting on this progressive scheme.
Mark Dyson, head of new build development for Lifeways, said: "Lifeways is delighted to be part of such an exciting and innovative development, adding to the landscape of services available in Cheshire East. From the overall building design to the design and layout of each individual home, Foden View is being developed to provide high quality and adapted accommodation to ensure tenants are able to live active and independent lives within the local Sandbach community."
Sarah Waters, corporate services director of Inclusion Housing, said: "Foden View is set to be a fantastic example of what can be achieved through innovative partnership working between statutory, not for profit and private sectors. Inclusion Housing is proud to be part of this scheme and the best bit is yet to come; welcoming the tenants into their new homes. We look forward to working in partnership with Lifeways and Cheshire East Council in making this a valued resource for years to come."
Alastair Sheehan, development director of HB Villages, said: "Foden View will promote personalisation for vulnerable adults in the Sandbach area. It will give tenants the choice to live where they want to, independently and in a safe environment. It's fantastic to see the work starting on this development and I look forward to returning and meeting the people who will proudly call Foden View their home."
Jim Nicholson, CEO of Pochin's, said: "We're extremely pleased to partner on this project to create a fantastic facility to support the Sandbach community. We have a strong track record of delivering quality projects across the North West and we expect this to be another positive contribution to the region, as part of a long-term relationship with HB Villages."
HB Villages was formed in May 2012 in order to deliver a pipeline of new build supported living accommodation throughout the UK. Working in partnership with Inclusion Housing CIC, care provider Lifeways and local commissioners, the trio has developed a unique model of supported living that demonstrates an innovative and commercial approach, which can be replicated nationally without the need for housing subsidy.
