Another new HBV supported living development launches in Stourport-on-Severn

Specialist supported living for adults with a range of disabilities has significantly improved in Stourport, thanks to the opening of Stourside, our new development of specialist supported apartments for adults with learning and physical disabilities.

Key members of Wyre Forest Borough Council and Worcestershire County Council turned out for the occasion, and were able to celebrate alongside the new residents and care staff, at the official opening of Stourside, Mitton Street.

Comprising of 15 specialist apartments, the development provides tenants with their own personal accommodation to meet their individual preferences, needs and requirements; with care staff available onsite 24/7 to provide support and ensure they can live as independently as possible.

The £3 million development is the result of our delivery partnership with Lifeways Community Care and Inclusion Housing CIC.

Councillor Adrian Hardman, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Adult Social Care, Worcestershire County Council, who officially opened the building said:

“It is fantastic to see Stourport have a development of this type. It is important to the local community that we take care of the most vulnerable people in our society. This scheme goes a long way in providing a safe and comfortable environment for people with learning and physical disabilities, while providing an opportunity to live as independently as possible.

“Nationally there is growing population of adults with a range of disabilities, and this is expected to grow even further over the coming years. Along with Stourside, Worcestershire County Council are planning more developments of this calibre which will allow people to remain living independently within their own home, with the knowledge that care staff are on hand 24/7.”

Alastair Sheehan, Development and Planning Director of HBV, said:

“Stourside is a prime example of how specialist supported housing can make a huge difference to adults with disabilities. Having their own home, along with onsite care means the tenants are able to live more independently and integrate into their local community.

“We are currently working on plans to deliver more schemes such as this in Worcestershire and we are proud to showcase this development as fine example of the positive outcomes that can be achieved for vulnerable people with the right kind of housing and support services.”

Janine Forshaw, Development Manager for Lifeways, adds:

“Lifeways is committed to providing innovative homes for adults with a range of disabilities. Stourside delivers a safe environment with onsite care staff, while also providing a home to call their own. Tenants will be able to live as independently as possible while receiving the right support.”

Sarah Waters, Business Director at Inclusion Housing, said:

“Stourside is a prime example of what can be delivered through innovative partnerships that put the service users at the heart of everything we do. Inclusion Housing are proud to be a part of the strong working partnership with HBV, Lifeways and the Local Authority that has brought the project to this point. We look forward to seeing how our tenants develop with improvements in their health and wellbeing and will continue to deliver high quality homes for the most vulnerable members of society.”
